Amateur / Ham Radio – What can you do?
Here are some things you can do in ham radio, most of which I have tried.
- Design build test / homebrew
- EME (CW SSB WSJTx)
- Satellite (FM linear WSJTx)
- Inmarsat signals
- Iridium signals
- Weather satellites (NOAA Meteor LR/HR)
- ISS (SSTV FM APRS)
- Satellite telemetry
- QO-100 (Es'hail-2)
- GreenCube (IO-117) [EoL 2024]
- 2m/70cm repeaters
- Aero
- DAB decoding
- HF (CW SSB WSJTx)
- SSTV
- Wefax
- SWL
- WSPR radio propagation experiments
- POCSAG
- ISM band at 430MHz
- Cellular signals
- TV signals
- ...and of course connect over the airwaves (QSO) with like-minded people
- It can be low cost but to do all the above expect to pay up to £20K+ over the years!
- Expect a 3 year steep learning experience to fully understand all the complexity (my favourite bit!)
